Inspirational Leadership

Dear All,

Thank you for all your very helpful inputs at the meeting last Thursday and it was great to see so much enthusiasm to drive things forward on the Inspirational Leadership Programme.

I attach a one-pager that puts the Inspirational Leadership Programme in context and highlights the benefits of engaging with it. For those of you wishing to nominate Employer Corporate HR/Training people and/or Leadership Coaches working with your Employers for the first series of Provider Training Workshops, I also attach a Provider Workshop Brief that you can personalise and use when inviting your nominees to attend. It would be helpful if you could have a quick word with me on numbers before actually sending invitations out.

On behalf of Steve, who is now on annual leave, I set out below the specific actions that he summarised at the end of the meeting:

  1. To raise the Inspirational Leadership Programme (ILP) with the Capability and Capacity Forum and recommend that they look at the Inspirational Leadership Tool in their programme of work – Action Anne.
  1. To raise ILP with the SSC Chief Executives and recommend that Nigel input to a future Chief Executive Development Session on the Inspirational Leadership Tool to encourage their support for the on-going Programme – Action Anne.
  1. To raise with the SSC M&L Champions and get their support for a condensed one-day workshop on the use of the Inspirational Leadership Tool and its context (See Note Below) – Action Sue (H).
  1. To raise with Jen Teulon and investigate whether ILP can be progressed quickly within the Capability and Capacity Work Streams – Action Steve.
  1. To write a one-pager on ILP to help raise awareness and highlight why people should get involved in it – Action Nigel.
  1. To get a list of existing ‘approved’ ILP providers to help with capacity, working in conjunction with Mike and Sue(H) – Action Nigel.
  1. To circulate the three dates for the first series of Provider Training Workshop sessions – Action Nigel.
  1. To provide nominations for the first series of Provider Training Workshop sessions (See Brief Above) – Action All.
  1. To share information on events where ILP might be promoted and to work together in promoting/supporting future events – Action All.
  1. To submit joint funding applications where appropriate and work with David Black in the Regions and Nations – Action All.
  1. To view ILP as part of the wider work being led by Skills Active on behalf of the Management and Leadership Network – Action Sue(H)/Mike.
  1. To look to run future meetings on the same day as other M&L meetings to facilitate diaries and dates to be circulated – Action Sue(H)/Mike

With specific regard to Action (3) above, the condensed workshop activity will be focussed on providing the Champion with a clear understanding of the scope of ILP and what the programme is trying to achieve, why we are promoting the work, the value of it core content and how they can support and promote it within their SSC's.

A number of you highlighted the importance of Professional Bodies, Trade Associations, Supply Chain Networks, Major Contractors etc. in driving ILP forward and there is also an important linkage to the on-going Broker Activity. John Baker from BERR kindly offered to do what he could do to help links to RDA’s and the Regions, where you felt this could be useful. There was also a clear recognition that there is a marked distinction between the needs of larger and smaller Employer Organisations.

Taking all of the foregoing into account, I will be following up with each of you to develop a co-ordinated plan on how we go forward with the immediate focus on Awareness Building Events that you will be running, your nominations (where relevant) for the first series of Provider Training Workshops planned for the Autumn and your Website Linkage Requirements.

If you need any further clarification on any of the foregoing or would like to talk anything through, please do not hesitate to contact me and thank you again for such a stimulating session,

Best wishes,

Nigel
