Here is just a sample, a few of the papers, of the hundreds of research projects undertaken for skills requirements for those starting and running small businesses in the last few years. I hope this may be helpful in your research into L&M for small businesses.
I've included government's recent task force report, for Ethnic Minority Businesses, which I was on, but as important is the GROWE task force and report funded by government for women led enterprises. Both cover skill needs and Lord Mandelson is currently responding to our recommendations.
There is a great deal of expert resource available that DfES, then SSDA, and UKCES, supported by DTI and BIS, have funded over the last fifteen years. Additionally, all of the SFEDI Board are small business owners and network with thousands of other small business owners and all the SFEDI Advisory Board (25+ members), representing the major national small business membership and business support organisations in the UK, commit to research in this area each year. Between them they actively support (i.e. their support is actively sought by) over 3 million of the 4.3 million small businesses in the UK.
The International Enterprise Promotion Convention in Harrogate in November, which SFEDI is organising, brings together best practice from around the world and from the 500+ delegates; we can introduce you to many of the UK's leading entrepreneurs/small business owners. Further research is available on www.sfedi.co.uk as is the SFEDI Qualifications (& Skills) Strategy for prospective and existing small business owners.
