Employer Engagement

How can we capitalise on SSCs' employer programmes to promote the Management and Leadership offer?

The M&L team's strategy is to use whatever network processes and channels are in place. This is a significant focus for the M&L team in 2007/8; David Black and Mike Hender will be working in this area to design and deliver an effective programme.

A short paper was discussed at the M&L Forum on
September 4. Final post Forum version here.

Employer Engagement background

Effective and demonstrable employer engagement is a vital part of the SSC role. It enables SSCs to speak with real authority on employers’ skills and productivity issues and to help bring about a more responsive supply side. Employer engagement is therefore central to the SSC standard.

SSCs are already actively engaging with employers in a wide variety of ways and adopting many innovative approaches. However, this good practice may not always get the partner recognition it deserves and nor is the SSC role in employer engagement universally understood.

Employer Engagement guidance is therefore being developed by SSDA to support SSCs in producing a strategy and action plan covering their activities in this area. The guidance is intended to help SSCs develop their own approach to meeting the Standard for Employer Engagement, within the context of their sector conditions and individual experience. The purpose of the guidance is to provide a useful tool for SSCs in further developing their employer engagement activities and achieving the maximum impact from them and not to provide a prescriptive set of rules or impose a single methodology.

SSDA Employer Engagement Action Planning Guidance***

This Guidance has been produced to help SSCs develop Employer Engagement Action Plans. It is not intended as a prescriptive set of criteria but as a good practice tool to support SSCs in developing robust Action Plans and meet the Employer Engagement element of the SSC Standard. Click here.
