| Action Learning Facilitators
Thank you for your interest in the Skills for Business Action Learning for Leaders programme. We hope the following will help you understand what we are looking for.
The role of the facilitator in this process is very different from the role of a traditional management development trainer or business consultant. It requires high level skills in the use of questioning, to assist the learner explore their own learning issue. In addition the facilitator needs to have experience in working with SME owners and directors and have an empathy for their situation.
The role is not about delivering inputs, knowledge, training packages, or proposing solutions to business problems. Any solutions that emerge for a participant from this type of programme should be arrived at by the learner themselves, based on the interchange with the facilitator and hearing other participants’ experiences.
So you will understand that, before including anyone on our list of action learning facilitators, they would need to provide us with evidence and references of assignments where they have successfully operated as action learning facilitators in the above manner.
All of our work is based on the National Occupational Standards for management and leadership which you can download from http://msc.managers.org.uk/. We would expect you to have a practical knowledge of these and to ensure workshops were rooted in them – although, of course, you may never actually mention the word ‘standard’ in any of the sessions.
For more information please refer to our good practice guidelines on running Action Learning for Leader’s programmes on the link below.

Having read this, if you feel that you would like to be part of the programme please do send us the information we suggest above.
