Dear Management and Leadership Development Colleagues It’s been a while since we updated you on M&L developments. Since we last met there have been many changes in the SSC world: reduced funding, all SSCs competing for the Employer Investment Fund, changes to the Alliance with the departure of John Mac, changes within the UKCES; and all of this within the umbrella of the new government clarifying its expectations of the way forward. As you know, SkillsActive has taken the lead on behalf of the Alliance for the M&L offer for the past five years. We hope you agree that we have had some notable successes and that many employers in the network have benefitted from the cross sector programme in areas like Inspirational Leadership and Action Learning. During this time our work has been greatly informed by the advice and guidance of Mike Hender and we would like to publicly acknowledge the contribution he has made to our work. Sadly, all good things come to an end and, due to the pressures of reduced budgets and fewer staff, we have advised the Alliance that we will relinquish the lead role for M&L forthwith. During the past 12 months BIS have set up a refreshed ‘Leadership and Management Network’ and we have represented the Alliance on this group. Its work has started to become increasingly significant as the government seeks to set out a brand new M&L strategy. We are very pleased to inform you that Sarah Mcloughlin from the Alliance has agreed to attend a series of workshops that will assist in the development of the draft strategy and she will take up the Alliance place on the new Network. The M&L website is a valuable resource that has been built over the past 7 years and, rather than see this just disappear, we have decided to support it for a further 12 months, accessible in the usual way. It will not be developed further but will be a repository for the information we have collected to date. The Inspirational Leadership site is also to be kept live for a further 12 months. This will allow time for the Alliance to decide the future direction of M&L Development. It has been a pleasure working with you all over these last few years and we wish you the very best for the future. Regards Stephen Studd |
